After a year Mom’s purse
still sits on the bedroom floor
right where she left it the night
she had the stroke
and against years of training us
to stay out of her purse
we had to rifle through
all the zippers, flaps, snaps
to find information,
but we always put it back
exactly where she put it
even a year after her death.
