Across the stump’s hollow
cobwebs tremble a tattered curtain
over abandoned cabin window
flapping wind through strands
torn, woven, torn, rewoven –
bandaged wound hopeful
for renewed wood grains
to sprout veins of sap flowing
into trunk remains to resuscitate
limbs and branches extending
upward in hallelujah!
Across the stump’s hollow
another’s leaf trembles
the spider’s approach,
waves hello, goodbye
within exhausted gauze
moist in morning rise.
